MPILA has come to replace MLMP.

MPILA was derived from Mpilo, which means life or health in Zulu and Xhosa, respectively. Here, MPILA also stands for Mentoring Plus International Leadership Academy, a dynamic initiative designed to empower the next generation of leaders by providing a platform for mentorship, leadership development, and personal growth. MPILA aims to nurture individuals' potential by equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in their academic, professional, and personal endeavors.

Through a combination of mentorship programs, workshops, and networking opportunities, MPILA focuses on creating leaders who can navigate the complexities of the global landscape. Participants gain access to seasoned mentors from various fields, who guide them through challenges and help shape their career trajectories.

The "Plus" in Mentoring Plus reflects the academy's holistic approach, incorporating leadership training, soft skills development, design thinking, and exposure to real-world opportunities such as internships and community engagement. MPILA aims to foster not only professional success but also ethical leadership, resilience, and a commitment to making positive impacts in society.

Our History

Evolution of Mentoring Plus International Leadership Academy

Mentoring Plus International Leadership Academy (MPILA), originally known as the Mennel Leadership Mentoring Programme (MLMP), began in early 2015 as a transformative movement to empower young leaders. Its mission was to equip young individuals with the skills, Mentoring, and network access needed to become effective and impactful leaders. Founded on the belief that meaningful guidance and exposure are essential for emerging leaders, MLMP quickly became a hub for youth empowerment and development.

MLMP thrived on strategic partnerships, collaborating with organisations such as the Young African Leaders Network, Junior Chamber International, Model ECOWAS Summit, United Nations, AIESEC, and GB Assessment. These alliances allowed the program to expand its reach and deepen its impact, empowering over 3,000 young people across Ghana and the broader Sub-Saharan African region through both direct and indirect initiatives.

The program offered a comprehensive suite of both online and in-person competencies essential activities for leadership effectiveness, including personal leadership, strategic planning, reflective thinking, decision-making, and communication skills. Through these, mentees gained the tools to navigate complex challenges, fostering resilience, innovation, and ethical leadership.

A distinctive feature of MLMP was its inclusion of NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) factors in its curriculum, aiming to support youth who were disengaged from traditional employment or educational opportunities. Many training programs were conducted in senior high schools and rural communities, reinforcing the program's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. These initiatives aligned closely with Sustainable Development Goal 8, focusing on decent work and economic growth, particularly for youth.

Since its inception, MLMP’s transformation into Mentoring Plus International Leadership Academy reflects a continued dedication to youth leadership and community empowerment. MPILA now stands as a beacon for young people aspiring to lead positive change, committed to creating pathways for decent employment and fostering sustainable economic empowerment across Africa.
